Day 8 - Saturday — Front walls
Day 9 - Sunday — Start wall sheathing
Day 10 - Monday — Final prep for trusses
Start of the lay-out of the left front wall.
img_0147cr.jpg
New crew - new methods.
img_0150cr.jpg
img_0152cr.jpg
Kathy and Paul work the sill, Peter and Deb look on, Tom sweeps in the background and Nancy is at the calculation station.
img_0157cr.jpg
Kathy points out that THATS the left end.
img_0161cr.jpg
That's what it is supposed to look like when we are done.
img_0163cr.jpg
Tom lays down the cut line, Paul and Ryan look on.
img_0167cr.jpg
Amanda shoots the job site from the second floor of the house.
We're all waiting for some numbers to discuss.
img_0170cr.jpg
Top and bottom plates clamped for marking.
img_0179cr.jpg
Nancy lays down the marks.
img_0180cr.jpg
Don't try to hide behind that cup. We can see you.
img_0181cr.jpg
Time to shoot some.
img_0184cr.jpg
Top - OK. Bottom - wait, wait.
img_0186cr.jpg
Short cripples above the header go in.
img_0230cr.jpg
It looks ready to go up. Peter tries to levitate it (Deb looks on in disbelief) before we do some serious lifting.
img_0236cr.jpg
That didn't work - so where did everyone go.
img_0237cr.jpg
Peter tells Ryan and Jes how to work the braces.
img_0242cr.jpg
We're ready. It's hard to see but we have a stopper block on the outside wall.
img_0243crjpg.jpg
img_0244cr.jpg
Almost there. This is where building with a complete sill plate pays off. The studs to the headers are just temps for stability and pushing spots.
img_0246cr.jpg
We're up and Peter convinces the bottom plate into alignment on the sill.
img_0252cr.jpg
The bottom plate has been cut and John removes the splice brace.
img_0268cr.jpg
How much room is left?
img_0274cr.jpg
The last wall section gets laid-out.
img_0277cr.jpg
Assembly.
img_0281cr.jpg
It's on the wall and Kathy makes a little adjustment.
img_0282cr.jp
Lift starts. The header is the same size as the other one, so we know what to expect.
img_0283cr.jpg
Mid way - it's getting heavy.
img_0284cr.jpg
Hung-up. Kathy is using the crow-bar to make a little room.
img_0285cr.jpg
Almost there - we just need to stop it before it goes too far (actually, we have stop blocks again.)
img_0286cr.jpg
It's up!
img_0287cr.jpg
We need to convince the sill plate out on the sill with the sill anchor hanging us up. We ended up tilting back slightly and sliding.
img_0288cr.jpg
John secures to the stop block.
img_0295cr.jpg
Outside corner is secured.
img_0296cr.jpg
The short sill section is not level - the front is down - Deb is sliding shims in.
img_0305cr.jpg
Completed walls. Hey Bet, it's the other way!
img_0312cr.jpg
Bella checks the work.
img_0314cr.jpg
That's it.
img_0317cr.jpg
Mary and Deb move some lumber out of the way.
img_0322cr.jpg
John and Peter assemble the staging so we can work the high lumber.
img_0323cr.jpg
Peter, John and Paul fit check a window. Everyone's smiling, so it must be good.
img_0325cr.jpg
The actual installation will be after the trusses are up.
img_0327cr.jpg
A square check.
img_0329cr.jpg
If the wall tops are correctly spaced, the trusses will drop right on.
img_0332cr.jpg
The neighbors were slowing down for a look-see as they went by all day.
img_0335cr.jpg
As Norm always says, cut long - trim to fit.
img_0336cr.jpg
First row of plywood goes on.
img_0339cr.jpg
Peter makes sure there are enough nails to hold it secure.
img_0340cr.jpg
Continuing along.
img_0342cr.jpg
John cuts the first window opening.
img_0344cr.jpg
If we start here, when we meet the other plywood, it should line up; right?
img_0347cr.jpg
John stands clear as Peter shoots the last few nails on the first row.
img_0350cr.jpg
Two rows, and this is the second side.
img_0351cr.jpg
Cleaning up so late the camera decided flash was needed.
img_0367cr.jpg
Peter checks his watch and calls time.
(The crew left when the music stopped.)
img_0369cr.jpg
Followed by John, Deb and Jes.
img_0373cr.jpg
Now day 10 begins.
img_0376cr.jpg
Paul and Peter lay down some nailing lines.
img_0378cr.jpg
Tom and Paul made short work of chopping some lumber into truss alignment blocks.
img_0379cr.jpg
The top-top plate in position and attached.
img_0380cr.jpg
There's the end, you can see the top-top plate on the lower top plate. Positioning it is important because they carry the trusses and the wall-to-wall dimension is very close to the truss length.
img_0381cr.jpg
Peter finishes nailing down the back top-top plate.
img_0382cr.jpg
As we were trying to figure how to correct a minor side wall issue, Paul showed up to solve the problem. Paul D, Paul F and Nancy discuss the plans.
img_0383cr.jpg
Decision made, the side top-top plates are installed.
img_0385cr.jpg
Alignment blocks are on the back wall. When the trusses show up in the morning, they will drop right into place.
Being ready for truss delivery has been our main goal over the last week+.
img_0386cr.jpg
Peter is ready with the radio in hand, but Paul sweeps on.
Paul just returned after being away for a week, so we'll give him one more day to get back into the routine.
img_0388cr.jpg
Peter isn't waiting.
